Designed to cook right at the table, this raclette serves up to eight people, providing eight nonstick dishes, dish holders and heat-resistant spatulas. This Swissmar Red Raclette Party Grill sells for $99.95 at Sur la Table and surlatable.com

We have friends with whom we spend a lot of time trying new beers and consuming cheese.

As I've confessed before, I eat a lot of cheese, and am never adverse to finding new ways to do so. I've fondued. I've souvlakied. I've melted, baked, drizzled and fried.

But up until now, I had never met Raclette.

My husband is having fun on Facebook this week, telling people we made the acquaintance of a "hot French party girl'' named Raclette, and I guess that half describes the seductive powers of this table-top grilling device which allows you to grill veggies and meats, while perfectly melting an array of cheeses, in a virtually mess-free, party-friendly manner.

And eat it all, to your heart's content (or detriment, you decide).

Our hosts this weekend shared with us a yummy array of cubed breads, small red potatoes, miniature pickles and meats such as prosciutto, all of which pairs perfectly with the diminuitive pans of melted Gruyere, Manchego and other sharp cheeses. (It also paired perfectly with my Delirium Tremens).

I'll be spending more time at the gym this week, for sure.

I'll also be bringing home our own Raclette (which is actually Swiss, and not French, by the way, and available for $99.95 at Sur La Table in Marlton)  one day soon.
